Lucy- Pharmacist Independent Prescriber

Name: Lucy Middleton

Job Title: Pharmacist Independent Prescriber

What do you do?:

I have been a qualified Pharmacist for nearly eight years. I graduated from the University of Strathclyde in 2017 and achieved full registration as a Pharmacist in August 2018, following my Pre-registration training in a community setting with Gilbride pharmacy. After qualifying, I worked with Boots as a Relief Pharmacist,
covering areas in the south and east of Glasgow. I then spent a year working as a Locum Pharmacist, covering various health boards. Most recently, I was
employed by NHS Lanarkshire, where I initially worked as a Foundation Pharmacist before being promoted to a Prescribing Support Pharmacist. In 2024, I obtained the Pharmacist Independent Prescribing Qualification at the University of Strathclyde.

Since joining ProPharm in May 2025, I have felt extremely supported by all members of the team. Sarah and Patricia’s passion and dedication are clear in everything that they do. They have been incredibly supportive of both my personal and professional development and are always open to new ideas which contribute to the growth of ProPharm. Their commitment to enhancing patient experiences and improving the quality and standards of clinical services delivered to GP practices is inspiring.

Special Interests/Keywords:

I have a strong interest in health and wellness and am currently pursuing an accreditation course in Lifestyle Medicine through the British Society of Lifestyle Medicine. This qualification will deepen my understanding of evidence-based approaches and clinical care, enabling me to empower patients to take control of their mental and physical health, in addition to potential pharmacological interventions, to support them in leading meaningful lives through proven behaviour changes and person-centred techniques. I am also passionate about the clinical management of chronic pain and committed to supporting patients struggling with mental health through both pharmacological and non- pharmacological approaches. My goal is to help optimise their health and wellbeing and make a meaningful improvement in their quality of life. Outside of work, I enjoy socialising with friends and family, staying active through walking and attending gym classes. I also have a passion for travelling, reading and listening to health and wellbeing podcasts.
